Sathi Akter, is a young mother of a five-year-old child. Abu Bakkar, husband of Sathi Akter is a day laborer who would earn less than a hundred dollars a month and struggled a lot to manage sustenance for his family, a family consisting of four members. Particularly after the covid-19 outbreak in 2020, her husband’s earnings got lesser and lesser as many people lost their jobs and went back to villages to survive through labor. Sathi dreamt to have a better life after marriage, but in reality, her life was difficult.

Sathi’s downhearted life ended when she met one of the representatives of SAWAB at her village Shampur under Birulia of Savar Upazila in Dhaka district. She came to know about the poverty alleviation program of SAWAB under the banner of the livelihood project which is funded by Islamic Aid, UK. This project drew her attention and she showed her eagerness to be a member of this initiative. She took part in motivational sessions and also shared her thoughts. Later she decided to choose cows for her livelihood as she had the experience of rearing cows.

Sathi was enraptured while talking about the opportunity she obtained through this poverty alleviation project and stated her feelings of joy as “Alhamdulillah. I am very much happy that I have got a cow and I am the owner of it. I can earn now by selling the milk of the cow and can also save some of it for my child s future. I will send my child to school. I pray for Islamic Aid and SAWAB as they have helped us in the time of need.”
