To address the urgent need for safe drinking water among underserved communities, SAWAB has distributed cash grants for the installation of 200 tube wells in Kaunia upazila, Rangpur. This initiative is part of SAWAB’s ongoing “1,000 Tube Wells Project”, which aims to provide sustainable access to clean water for marginalized families across Bangladesh.

The distribution ceremony was held at the Upazila Auditorium, presided over by Mr. Lokman Hossain Talukder, General Manager of SAWAB, and moderated by Program Officer Mr. Tanvir Shuvo. Mr. Md. Mohidul Haque, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), attended as the Chief Guest and applauded SAWAB’s humanitarian effort, stating that such initiatives directly contribute to improving public health and quality of life in rural communities.

Ms. Shiuli Richil, Upazila Public Health Engineer, addressed the audience as the Special Guest, highlighting the serious health risks caused by lack of access to clean water and appreciating SAWAB’s role in addressing this need.

Mr. Sirajul Islam, Deputy Manager – HR & Procurement of SAWAB, explained the project’s structure and financial transparency. Other notable speakers included educationist Mr. Sekendar Ali BSc, social worker Mr. Jaminur Rahman, and SAWAB staff members.

Each family received a total allocation of BDT 13,220 for installing a tube well, with the first installment of BDT 9,760 distributed during the event. Beneficiaries from Haragachh, Shohidbagh, and Kursha unions received the support with great joy and expressed heartfelt gratitude to SAWAB.

As part of the broader initiative, 650 tube wells have already been installed in Rangpur district. The remaining units will be implemented soon to further benefit families in need.

UNO Mr. Mohidul Haque thanked SAWAB for their meaningful and well-organized effort, stating, “This type of program ensures access to safe drinking water for remote and underserved communities.”

The beneficiaries, many of whom had no previous access to clean water, were overjoyed to receive the support and expressed sincere appreciation for the initiative.
