Urgent Help Needed for Cyclone Remal Victims

The recent devastation caused by Cyclone Remal has left thousands of families in dire need of immediate assistance. The cyclone has wreaked havoc across various regions of Bangladesh, including Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Hatia, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Feni, Cumilla, Chittagong, and Cox’s Bazar. The aftermath of this natural disaster has resulted in the destruction of homes, the loss of livelihoods, and severe shortages of food and clean water. Tragically, there have been 16 reported deaths in Patuakhali, Khulna, and Satkhira, and many people have been injured in the affected areas.

Cyclone Remal has severely impacted the districts of Bagerhat, Barisal, Bhola, Borguna, Khulna, Patuakhali, and Satkhira. Approximately 3.8 million people have been affected, with around 150,000 houses partially or fully damaged, leaving many families without shelter. Immediate relief efforts are crucial to addressing the extensive damage to infrastructure and providing essential support to those in need.

Areas Affected:

  1. Satkhira: Heavy flooding has submerged villages, destroying homes and crops.
  2. Khulna: Coastal areas have experienced significant infrastructure damage.
  3. Bagerhat: Many are left homeless, and access to clean water is a major concern.
  4. Pirojpur: Widespread flooding has caused displacement and loss of agricultural land.
  5. Hatia and Bhola: These islands are critically impacted, with many communities cut off from mainland support.
  6. Patuakhali and Barisal: Severe damage to housing and public services.
  7. Noakhali and Lakshmipur: Flooding and wind damage have left many families without shelter.
  8. Feni and Cumilla: Infrastructure damage has made it difficult to deliver aid.
  9. Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar: Significant coastal erosion and property destruction.

Immediate Needs:

  • Shelter: Thousands of families are currently without shelter. Temporary housing, tents, and building materials are urgently needed.
  • Food and Water: Access to food and clean drinking water is critical. Emergency food supplies and water purification units are essential.
  • Healthcare: Medical supplies and mobile health clinics are needed to treat injuries and prevent disease outbreaks.
  • Clothing and Essentials: Many have lost all their belongings and need clothing, bedding, and other daily necessities.

The people affected by Cyclone Remal are in desperate need of our support. Let us come together to help them rebuild their lives and provide the necessary aid to overcome this disaster. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by Cyclone Remal.

SAWAB is now on the ground for the Cyclone Remal Relief Program

  • SAWAB is actively on the ground for the Cyclone Remal Relief Program, providing crucial support to the flood victims in Satkhira, Koyra, and Khulna. Our first step has been the successful distribution of essential relief supplies to 1,000 families, ensuring they have the immediate necessities to survive and begin rebuilding their lives. In addition to this, we have initiated a tree plantation drive, planting 500 trees in the affected areas to aid in environmental restoration and future disaster mitigation.
  • However, the needs are vast, and our current resources are insufficient to address the full scope of the disaster. We urgently require additional funding to continue our efforts and expand our reach. The affected communities need more food, clean water, medical supplies, and shelter to recover and regain stability. We appeal to compassionate individuals and organizations to contribute to our relief fund. Every donation will directly impact the lives of those struggling to cope with the aftermath of Cyclone Remal. Together, we can make a significant difference and help these resilient communities rebuild and thrive. Please join us in this vital mission of hope and recovery.
