Under its flagship Healthcare Program, SAWAB Bangladesh has successfully implemented a special Eye Cataract Project, providing 100 free cataract surgeries to underprivileged individuals in Khansama, Dinajpur. The surgeries were conducted at Marioum Eye Hospital, Saudpur, with the honorable presence of donor representatives who personally observed and interacted with beneficiaries.

Cataracts are a major cause of preventable blindness in Bangladesh, especially among elderly and low-income populations. Left untreated, cataracts severely limit daily function, self-reliance, and quality of life. Through this project, SAWAB aimed to restore vision, confidence, and dignity to individuals who had long suffered in silence.

The patients—mostly elderly men and women—were provided with comprehensive support, including pre-surgery eye examinations, transportation, cataract operations, post-operative medication, and follow-up care. For many, it was a life-changing moment—the ability to once again see their families, walk unassisted, and reclaim their independence.

“This isn’t just about treating blindness—it’s about restoring hope and empowering lives,” said a SAWAB program official.

The participation of donor representatives added transparency, accountability, and a personal connection to the impact of their support. Their presence on-site reinforced the shared commitment to humanitarian healthcare.

This Eye Cataract Project is part of SAWAB’s broader Healthcare Program, which seeks to ensure essential medical services for vulnerable communities across Bangladesh. From eye camps to emergency surgeries, SAWAB continues to serve those who need it most.
