Munni is a housewife and mother of 4 children. Two of them are daughters and two sons. Her husband Babul Mia is a poor day labour works in the agriculture field. Munni had to do domestic work in other peoples’ homes to support her family at an early age. She has four children in quick succession after being married at the age of 16, which meant she often fell dangerously ill from malnutrition. She didn’t have the opportunity to receive any education because of the inability of her parents. But whatever the difficulties she faced, she remained calm and help her husband mentally to overcome the miserable situation they were in.
Her life changed when SAWAB counselled her to be a woman entrepreneur. Munni’s family don’t have any land or property to support during troublesome days. And only through the small and irregular earning of her husband doesn’t support the family for 3 meals a day. So, when she learns about the Women Empowerment program of SAWAB and was counselled, she has taken her bold decision to survive better. She has interest to run a small business at her village. Islamic Aid, UK through SAWAB provides her with a grocery shop to launch at her locality. Munni was given with all necessary items (rice, flour, pulses, salt, sugar, oil, spices, soap, puffed rice, biscuits, chips, milk, and many other items) in a reasonable scale to start her grocery shop business. Also she received training how to become an entrepreneur, manage the shop, keep accounts – all life skills training. This allows her to feed her family nicely and now she concentrates on building her asset until it becomes a sustainable source of income for her family. Being a member of poor community they took shelter at the Government of Bangladesh’s Housing project, but when her business will be a source of solid savings, she plans to have their own small land to build their own house. She helps her younger daughter to study at school and now she is class VIII. Younger son is also school going child. Through her husband’s earning and her own from the grocery shop, she proves self-confidence can help change her life in a marvellous way. She is now enjoying magical moments of her life and contributing to be self-reliant.
